The line of trees at the foot of Mt. Nitai, south of the modern town of Hamam, marks the Arbel stream as it flows out of Wadi Arbel.
Ground level view of the Arbel stream at the foot of Mt. Nitai. Horvat Vradim, excavated by Uzi Leibner (2007-2012, site 32), is seen on the slope in front of Mt. Nitai.
Setting off upstream
Looking back to Hamam, after crossing the stream on slippery stepping stones.
From same point, with the Arbel cliffs in the distance
A sunset view of the same location, from the Arbel side
Proceeding upstream after crossing the Arbel stream
The path is easy to begin with,
....but the Wadi soon starts to narrow as it passes between the Arbel cliffs (west) and Mt. Nitai
The narrow section viewed from above: the cliffs of Arbel (west) on the left and Mt. Nitai on the right
The same view from below, looking downstream to Hamam, with Arbel on the right and Nitai on the left.
The same view from high up on the Arbel cliff
Down in the valley, after some heavy rain
The crossing has become impossible without gumboots
Next time with gumboots, Mt. Nitai rising on the left
Negotiating the crossing further upstream
Looking downstream, Hamam in the distance, this narrow part of the stream has many twists and turns
Looking upstream over this section, from the Arbel side
Looking upstream, from higher up on the Arbel cliff
Almond tree in blossom, further upstream
Looking back downstream, Arbel cliffs on the right
Below ancient Arbel village, the stream has diminished
Above the stream on the ascent to the village of Arbel
The way up to the ruins of ancient Arbel (Horvat Arbel)
Upstream from Horvat Arbel, Wadi Arbel becomes a shallow gulley
View downstream with Sea of Galilee in the distance
Similar view downstream along Wadi Arbel, from the ancient village of Arbel
Sunset over Wadi Arbel, looking upstream towards the Horns of Hittin
